June 2006 Washington Wine Club
2004 Mark Ryan Wild Eyed Syrah-Viognier
I love getting these wines for the club! Winemaker Mark
McNeely makes HUGE, powerful wines that still have tremendous varietal character, and that
represent their terroir well. The fruit for this comes entirely from Red Mountain,
and the Syrah is co-fermented with the Viognier, adding tremendously to the wine´s
complexity. There is a bit left of this, and it is $35.00. It´s pretty much
ready to drink, although it´ll certainly hold another two or three years.
2003 Hightower Red Mountain Red Wine
At a recent industry tasting, my wife and I tried this wine.
Bridgett looked at me and said "Washington Club Wine?" Who am I to
argue? She has one of the best palates I know. Tim Hightower has consistently
made incredible wines with great aging potential, and this is the Hightower´s best
yet. Put it away for several years. There is a bit left at $49.75.
