June 2005 Washington Wine Club
2003 Rulo Silo (Reserve Syrah)
Yep, I´m a big fan of this winery - you know that. Kurt and Vicki Schlicker produce some
of the best in Washington State, and at the best prices. This reserve Syrah is no exception.
It´s all of $25.00, and they only made 200 cases, most of which are gone.
We´ve got a bit left, although I don´t really expect it to last very long!
It´ll hold in your cellar for another five years, if you can possibly keep your hands off
it.
2001 Ross Andrew Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemaker Ross Mickel (Andrew is his middle name) has been getting lots of points recently.
His wines seem to attract good scores, for good reasons. He´s the cellarmaster at Betz
Winery, whose facilities he´ll take over as soon as the new Betz winery is ready for
occupation. This is his current release; he wants to wait until the wine is ready.
It´s $28.00, and I´ve got a bit more.
2003 Syncline Pinot Noir Celilo Vineyard
Every year I judge at the Central Washington Wine Fair (I´m off this coming weekend for just
that event). Every year I get stuck on the panel that judges Washington State Pinot Noir.
Every year. Every #$%$%@#$ year I discover just how godawful our Pinot production really is.
Every year James and Poppie Mantone DON´T enter this wine. Every year I beg them
to, so at least one Pinot that I judge will be good! I love good Pinot Noir. This is
easily the best in the state, and it stands up with some of the best from Oregon as well.
After all, that´s where James got his start. It´s $19.75, and there´s
miniscule amounts left.
