May 2005 Washington Wine Club
K Vintners 2003 Cougar Hills Syrah and 2003 "The Boy"
Ahhh... is there anyone in this club not familiar with these two? They are probably the two
most popular wines in Charles Smith’s portfolio, and usually the hardest to get. With good
reason. The Boy ($29.75) is a blend of 44% Tempranillo, 24% Grenache, 16%Syrah, and 16%
Mourvedre, and a powerhouse. The Cougar Hills (39.75) comes from one of Walla Walla’s premier
vineyards (owned by the Cougar Crest Winery folks). Both wines could use a couple years to
unwind. Both also are in really short supply.
