March 2005 Washington Wine Club
Betz Family Winery 2002 Bordeaux Releases
Clos de Betz and Pere de Famille
Do these two sound familiar? We had them in last year´s
club as well. We´ll do that with some wines - keep ‘em
coming each year so you can build a vertical of these hard-to-get
goodies. The 2002 Clos de Betz ($31.50) is 57% Merlot, 33%
Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, from a variety of
vineyard sources on Red Mountain, Yakima Valley, Horse Heaven Hills
and Frenchman Hills, much of the Merlot being 30 year old vines.
The Pere de Famille ($48.00) is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17%
Merlot, and 6% Malbec, from Red Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills, and a
small amount from Yakima Valley. As you´d expect from
Red Mountain fruit, it´s a big, big wine. As you´d
expect from Bob Betz, these are both complex, interesting wines that
will make valuable additions to all our cellars. We have a few
bottles left of each available for sale.
