December 2004 Washington Wine Club
Ah, decisions, decisions. As I´m writing this I´m still trying
to decide which of several outstanding candidates will wind up in this club this
month! Just having returned from Walla Walla with a car full of outstanding new
wines to find that we´ve also received some old favorites ... well, this is a
tough call. Here goes!
2002 Morrison Lane Counoise
Yes, this is the Walla Walla Vineyard that K Vintners uses to such amazing effect.
Grower Dean Morrison has fashioned a wine here from an unusual varietal
(normally found in the southern Rhone) that gives an interesting, earthy expression
to that familiar Walla Walla fruit. The winery just opened its doors.
They also have a Syrah and a Sangiovese, with more wines on the way. The Syrah
is in stock. All wines are made from Morrison Lane fruit. It´s
$33.00, and we should be able to get more. I think.
2003 DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc
It´s DeLille. It´s good. It´s a blend of Semillon and
Sauvignon Blanc, done in a rich oaky style. We might be able to get a touch
more. It´s $30.00, and one of the finest white wines made in this state,
with an established track record of fine, ageable wines.
Some of the wines left out of this mess this month are from Cayuse, Spring
Valley Vineyard, Russell Creek, Syncline, Morrison Lane, James Leigh Cellars,
Reininger, Mark Ryan ... please ask, as not all of these will be on the regular
shelves for a while.
