May 2006 Specialty Club
2002 Finca Sandoval Manchuela
This powerhouse of a Spanish wine is based on Syrah and, like
most Syrah, can use a few years extra cellaring. It´s a huge monster of a
wine, well-loved by certain popular wine critics. Consequently it is somewhat
hard to get. It runs $36.00. Delicious!
2004 Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang
OK, I could just call this one of the world´s greatest
Sauvignon Blanc. I could say that Didier is a madman producer in Pouilly-Sur-Loire,
which makes this wine Pouilly-Fume. None of it describes how amazing this wine
is. I had the privilege of tasting this wine with Monsieur Dagueneau this past
Tuesday and was knocked out by its power and grace. I was even more blown away by
the 2000 Pur Sang that he was pouring from magnum as a special treat.
Consequently, I´m going to recommend giving this wine six years before
opening. There is a microscopic amount of his other wines left available.
This one runs $79.75, which would push this club well over its $90.00 limit, so
we´re running this month at a flat $90.00. Enjoy! If you want details
of my 2000 visit to the Dagueneau establishment in the Loire Valley, stop in and ask...
