April 2004 Specialty Club
2002 Leonetti Columbia Valley Merlot
It´s probably the most highly sought-after wine made in the Northwest, and
that´s because winemaker Gary Figgins has been making the best wines in the
Northwest since before most of the current crop of wineries opened and, in some
cases, before their winemakers were born. Leonetti Cellar is the oldest winery
in Walla Walla. We get minimal amounts of their wine each year, and allocate it
to our club members first. This cost $61.50, and there´s a little bit
left available to our club members through April 15th; at that point we´ll make
them available on a first-come, first-served basis to all customers. It´s
ready to drink, and will hold in your cellar for around four years - although I find
much of the charm of this wine is its youthful power. Check with us at the shop
if you´re interested in more. Enjoy!
2001 Domaine Cordier Pere et Fils Pouilly Fuisse Fut No
XV
What all that nonsense means is that this is made from a single barrel of Pouilly
Fuisse. About five cases of this came to Seattle, along with five cases of
barrel number 17! And yes, they were noticeably different, and uniformly
excellent. Burgundy´s Pouilly Fuisse is one of the great Chardonnay
regions of the world, and this bottling certainly goes a long way towards upholding
that tradition. It´ll hold quite well for up to five years, and possibly
longer. I doubt I´ll be able to keep my hands off my bottle that long,
however. It runs $35.50, and there´s miniscule quantities left of both
barrels.
