February 2004 Specialty Club
2001 Domaine Charvin Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Now here´s a monster. 2001 was a great vintage for the southern Rhone,
and winemaker Laurent Charvin may well have made his finest wine yet. This will
hold in a cellar as long as 2016 - please don´t drink it before 2006 - and is
an absolute powerhouse. Robert Parker gave it 94-97 points. Courtesy of
the review, there´s no more to be had. This is truly amazing wine from
one of my favorite areas on the planet. It is $63.00.
1992 Carl Lewen Leiwener Laurentiuslay Riesling Spatlese
Now that´s a mouthful - and so is the wine. This Mosel wine is somewhat
sweet, low alcohol, elegant, and, while it´s ready to drink, will keep quite
well in your cellar for quite a while. Again, it´s pretty much gone (this
club gets a lot of wines like that!), and it is $31.00. Enjoy!
