1997 Guigal Cote-Rotie Brune et Blonde de Guigal
This is Guigal´s basic blend of the two hillsides (Brown and Blonde) that make
up Northern Rhone´s Cote-Rotie (roasted slope) appellation. Basic??
The Wine Spectator gave this a truly ridiculous score - not that I place all that
much faith in points. It´s a spectacular Syrah from a great vintage.
Give it ten years. It´s worth it. It´s $47.00 and gone.
2001 Wegeler Rudesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling Spatlese
Love those German wine labels. Wegeler is the producer. Rudesheimer Berg
Rottland is the vineyard, located in the Mosel Valley. Riesling the grape.
Spatlese is the weight of the grape at harvest; spatlese is a late harvest,
so the wine has a fair amount of residual sugar, offset by a great, crisp acidity.
It´s from one of the finest vintages I´ve seen in Germany.
This wine can be aged for twenty years. Honestly. It´s $22.50, and
likewise gone.
